The Influence of Prague Dialect on Speech of Students From Zlín Area

This bachelor 's thesis focuses on the influence which can Prague Common Czech language have on students from the Zlin area who are staying in Prague for longer period. The first part of the work deals with the theory, especially with the theme of language varieties and the differences between them. The second part of the work is the empiric part, which consists of interviews with young students from the Zlin area. The interviews are led in such a way that the respondents do not know what exactly the subject matter is. The second part of the interview aims at the speakers' language reflection. All the interviews are recorded and transcribed. All the information crucial for this work is included in the transcriptions. The results of the empiric part partly confirm some theses which were established at the outset of the work. For example, that social interaction plays a significant role in the question of adaptation to the Common Czech. Results cannot be viewed as unequivocal, the conditions under which the interviews were made should be taken into consideration. What is more, the specific nature of each speaker should be considered too. Standard and non-standard language in printed media communication and its impact on discussions about standard language

The present Master's thesis analyses language means in printed media with a particular focus on national daily newspapers from the second trimester of 1993. That year, there was an important linguistic conference on standardised Czech and language culture. The analysis examines especially language means that deviate from the standardised norm of the language. The theoretical part discusses key concepts, such as norm and codification or national language and its varieties. The understanding of these terms is critical for the analytical part of the thesis where language means used in printed media are being analysed using quantitative content analysis. The aim of this analysis is to describe their motivation of use and function. The results are then compared with the proceedings of the 1993 conference on standardised Czech and language culture held in Olomouc. The thesis provides a clear view on how the occurrence of non-standardised language means in media influences academic discussion on standardised Czech.

The thesis deals with the issue of translatability of colloquial Czech elements and lexical Germanisms into the Polish language using the comparison of the novel Konec punku v Helsinkách by Jaroslav Rudiš and its Polish translation. The thesis deals with the issue of translatability of colloquial Czech elements into the Polish language using the comparison of the novel "Night Work" by Jáchym Topol and its Polish translation. The theoretical part involves a summary of the development of the Czech and Polish languages from the perspective of a standard language variety origin and its norm. Moreover, it focuses on the changing stratification of both languages with a special attention to the present stratification. The description of colloquial Czech and its current position as a Czech language variety is also included. Furthermore the thesis deals with the issue of equivalence, adequacy and translatability from the theoretical and practical point of view. The analysis of the original and translated novel extracts follows. This part concentrates on the possibilities of substituting Czech colloquial words in the Polish text. Pupils' morphological competence at the first stage of primary school

This final thesis works with the topic of standard Czech language at the 1st level of primary schools. The theoretical part deals with the units of the Czech national language, standard Czech language and its development, current phenomenons in contemporary Czech, common Czech language, Czech dialects and sociolects. Furthermore, it briefly describes the development of teaching of standard Czech language at schools and other possibilities of teachers. It also analyzes particular morphological aspects of individual morphological changes subsequently examined in the practical part. The empirical part is a quantitative analysis and comparison of the ability of pupils of the first grade of selected schools in the Central Bohemian Region to identify the non-standard expressions and replace them with the correct standard forms. The work partly verifies the selected hypotheses and compares the results primarily with the results of similar research carried out at the 2nd level of primary schools.

Code switching and code mixing in DVTV - online channel interviews

The aim of this thesis is to find out to what extent DVTV Internet TV speakers adhere to Literary Czech in each interview they perform and under which circumstances they do not. We also wanted to contribute to the answers to the question, whether it is appropriate to think about the transition from the current concept of Literary Czech to Standard Czech. During the interview analysis, we monitored the rate of occurrence of the non-standard elements, the influence of the speaker's role in the interview, and selected sociolinguistic factors which have influence on the choice of language code. We compared the results with the research of other journalistic interviews and with the corpus data from the Common Czech. The examined material consisted of 30 interviews from January to February 2016. We found out that some of the interviewed people tended to use Literary Czech, some were speaking non-standard Czech and there were also people whose speech was in terms of the occurrence of Literary and non-standard elements rather mixed. Nevertheless, in general, the character of the texts was rather literary. Czech of Slovak Speakers

The bachelor`s thesis Czech of Slovak Speakers analyzes the spoken language speeches by two Slovak speakers in the Czech language on the basis of language transfer, semicommunication and linguistic typology of errors described in the first part. The second part is in relation to the theoretical definition of the problem devoted to the research. It describes and according to the language levels divides errors as actually found in the speeches and imagined, which are described by speakers themselves. The conclusion find out the ratio between the errors caused by interference and by other influences. We explain possible causes of this situation and we are suggesting a solution there.
